Welcome, I’m glad you’re here.
Hi, I’m Kayla Patterson
My Approach to Therapy
I view the ability to take part in your journey to healing as the greatest privilege. Because each person is different, my approach to therapy is different with each person as I learn how I can best help you reach your goals. First and foremost, I am a person-centered therapist, meaning that I view you and your goals as the most important part of the therapeutic process. My practice is primarily guided by the ideals of existential therapy, and I am passionate about helping clients find and create purpose amidst even the most difficult life circumstances. In my experience, I have found that many difficult life circumstances stem from current or past trauma. As a trauma-informed therapist, I utilize Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat and relieve PTSD, acute stress, and anxiety symptoms resulting from traumatic and other life experiences. Lastly, I commonly draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and strengths-based techniques.
Who I Work With
I have focused my practice specifically on working with adolescents (ages 16+) and adults, and have experience working in a variety of settings, including crisis intervention, college counseling, community mental health, and private practice settings. I have worked with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, with concerns including trauma, depression, anxiety, family of origin issues, grief, sexuality, spirituality, and more. I have specialized interest and training in treating those who have experienced trauma, those living with chronic illness, and those wrestling with faith beliefs. I commonly work with adults experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem, those who wish to rewrite patterns of generational trauma in their own stories, and those experiencing spirituality or faith concerns (sometimes known as “deconstruction” and “reconstruction”). I am available to work with clients anywhere in North Carolina via Telehealth, and have an in-person office based out of Charlotte.
